Okay okay!

Here are Renee and Mabry at the baby shower.
Jess, Mabry, and me and the shower.
Ryan & me at Lewis and Clark's "End of the Trail" in Seaside, Oregon.

Intending on a nice picnic on the beach, we went to the grocery before leaving for OR. It was so windy, we were all eating more sand than food.

So we went back to the jeep to eat.

Renee & Randy on a pier in Olympia.

Ryan took us to this hidden secret. It's a nice little beached area on Puget Sound.

hairy beasts

Sorry the picture's not that great, but I wanted to share with you all just how much hair we're no longer dealing with in the house. Yesterday, Ryan brushed the dogs for just a few minutes and this is what he got. When I got home fom work, I took a picture and had Libby lay next to the pile to give you an idea of just how much there was. The dogs are both "blowing" their winter coats right now and I just can't tell you how happy I am that they're outside.

Music & Mariners

It's been a VERY busy weekend. Last night, we listened to one of Ryan's co-workers play his guitar and sing at a local bar/restaurant. We didn't get home until LATE that night. Tonight, we went to a Mariners game. They lost. Elayna's first bar and first baseball game.

exciting, exciting

There are TWO hummingbirds that I've noticed hanging around. One is a motley brown/green color and the other is a rusty red. This is so exciting! I have hummingbirds!

Also exciting, I've unofficially started my new job. There was a meeting with a potentially new client, and since she would become part of my caseload, I went with my supervisor to meet her. But my first "official" day isn't until the 23rd of this month. I can't tell you how happy I am to actually have a social service job again. (The pay increase is also nice.)

On another exciting note, Renee has her new puppy, Tessa. But I'll let her tell you all about the little gal ON HER BLOG. (Because has a blog too; yes, ma'am, she does. She blogs, she's a blogger... Aren't you Renee?!)

he CRACKS me up

When I returned home after errands this afternoon, I gave Dax & Libby each a treat. This time, they got large, braided rawhide rings. My thought was that Dax wouldn't try to bury his treat this time since it was so big. WRONG.

I went out to check on them shortly after and I run into this. Sneezing and completely covered in dirt!

I couldn't stop laughing when I found where he'd attempted to bury the bone. All he managed to accomplish was a dirt/grass/twig covering. I suppose his instincts have been stunted from being an inside dog all these years. He never fails to fall one brick short of a load.
Here he is "guarding" it from Libby, who poked her head around the corner to see what I was laughing at. This is the stance that made Ryan & I think she looked just like the statue the other day.

Ruby Ruby

The replacement feeder arrived a few days ago and instead of purchasing the store formula, I found a recipe online and mixed the solution on the stovetop. It's been hanging outside for the past two days and I hadn't noticed anything until this morning. (Well, that's a lie, ants found their way to the feeder and I had to get an extender to hang it on.) When I opened the back door and exclaimed how happy I was to see the dogs, I immediately heard a humming/buzzing sound that very quickly dissipated. It had to be a hummingbird! And I go and scare it off! Geesh. Then I noticed the water bowl was running low so I went back in the house for a pitcher. When I went back out, I heard it again and this time think I actually saw it. It was mostly red, I've never seen a hummingbird like that. I think I shall name it "Ruby."

Jeep Grand Cherokee

This commercial is totally us. Except Ryan & I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Just a little bit of background: When we got married, Ryan was driving a Hyundai Tiburon and I was driving a Nissan Altima. Well the Nissan eventually died and we traded it in for the Jeep (about 3 years ago). By default, the Jeep should be mine, or at least that's what I think. Anyway, we share it... competitively... and lovingly... but more so competitively... with love... and patience... and dibs.

"Tip of the Spear"

The man of the house is home! Another yay! The dogs went crazy when they saw him. I'm surprised they even recognized who he was with all the dirt he was covered in. Seriously, he very closely resembled a beach bum with his tan, blond hair, and all the dirt on his face, clothes, and in his ears. Nastiness. Then he got a shower and returned to his hot self again.
Ryan's had his platoon now for two weeks and has already been labeled as "the lead" and "tip of the spear" when they go to Iraq. They're very organized, have great leadership, adapt at war fighting... the list goes on. He's extremely proud of his men, their camaraderie, and what they've already accomplished together in just a few weeks. I'm so proud to have a husband who knows what he's doing, enjoys his job and trusts the men he's with because they too know what they're doing. It makes me feel much better about the whole deployment deal. (Even though I still don't like the idea of it.)

YAY!!!

I GOT THE JOB!
YAY!

(Just to remind you,
almost a month ago, I interviewed for a part-time case manager/counselor position with Bethany Christian Services... And I got the job! A social work job! I got the job!)
Wow, three posts in one day. Did I mention I got the job?

Puddle Boarding

I want to go. Reminds me of the Christmas we went car-hood sledding.

99 DAYS!

Let the countdown REALLY begin. There's less than 100 days until Elayna's due date. Can you believe it?!!! I remember when we still had 250+ days. I'm torn between panicking and celebrating... feelin a little of both (in addition to the karate chop my kidney just got).

cardboard testimonies

Saw this on another blog. It's great.

What a Schnoz

I've been giving the dogs more treats since they've been outside. Libby gobbles hers up as quickly as possible.
But Dax has started burying his. Doesn't he realize that Libby's just going to go dig it up and eat it? I'm telling you, since he's been outside, he's started acting like a completely different dog. Still just as affectionate, a little less obedient, and as the neighborhood kids would say, "(were)WOOOOlf-like." Sometimes when I hear howling, I can't tell even if it's the kids or my dogs.

This is a video of him, using his huge schnoz to bury a treat.

On a completely different note, Elayna is a VERY active little girl. I wake up to her kicking me and fall asleep to the same. Already, there have been a couple times where she's hit me so hard it hurts! I sure hope I'm not a human punching bag for the next three months. (I already have my share of beatings from working at NPFC!) Not to mention my innards are starting to get squished. Anytime I sneeze, it hurts, bad. I won't go into other bodily functions.

Proof!

Here's proof that the dogs like the new houses. This shot was taken before I went to bed. (You can see it's STILL raining. Geesh, I'm so tired of this wet, rainy, Washington weather.) Anyway, I'm glad Libby let Dax have the one without a door. He's challenged enough as it is. I just hope he learns how to manipulate it eventually because we'll have to get a door for the winter. Aren't they cute?!
Here's Boo. Since the dogs have been moved outside, their food dishes and the community water bowl are now outside too. Boo's at a complete loss. I put this white corningware water dish by her food, but she wouldn't drink out of it. After two days of this water strike, I put the dish down where the community bowl used to be. She drank until I thought she'd get sick and took it away from her. It's back up with the cat food now. She's just gonna have to get over it.

they love 'em

Since our canine kiddos are going to be spending all their time outside, I bought a dog house yesterday. Both the dogs immediately took to it. If one of them isn't in it, the other one is. So I thought I would get them another one. I found the brown house on craigslist for less than 1/4 of what I would pay retail. It came with all the accessories (door and pad) too! I'm so proud of finding such a great deal. Anyway, the first two photos are before I got the second house. The last photo shows both the houses and Libby. I couldn't get both dogs to stay inside the houses for a photo. But trust me, they love them!

Here is Dax this morning, refusing to look at me... until...
... I give him a treat. Then he gives me this look like I'm bothering him. As soon as I turn my back, he grabs the treat and runs off into the grass to chew on it. He's been a little out of character, wild-like, since he's been out the past few days.
Libby & Dax LOVE their new dog houses. They went balistic when I brought the new brown one out to them. It has a door on it that Libby didn't have any problem figuring out. Dax, on the other hand, has yet to brave it. Let's hope she settles on the new brown one.

One last thing, for the past month, I've been watching hummingbirds come up to the back porch looking for food and then fly off. I guess the previous tenants put out food. Anyway, I've wanted a feeder for quite some time, and I finally got one, but it doesn't work! I took a picture to document the leakage. This is so sad. I called the manufacturer and they don't know what the problem could be but they're sending me another one. I can't wait until it arrives!

I miss Harding.

I love that squirrels are on the video. I'm wondering where the treacherous and vindictive blue jays are though.

04 June 2008

It's another muggy day.

Being the bargain shopper that I am, instead of purchasing a crib set for Elayna, I decided to recycle some fabric and make curtains. Then I crocheted this blanket to match the room. The other day, I found a quilted throw that went with the nursery colors perfectly. Folded in half, it fits the crib very nicely. When it's time for the crib to become a daybed or twin, it unfolds to fit just as well. I'm debating whether or not I want to go get the matching sham.

Grandma's so crafty. She's been sending me boxes of my old baby things (as well as Dad's and my brother's). This last time, she sent some things she'd made. We now have a diaper wipes holder, a lightswitch cover, "pony" bank, and teddy bear mobile. Thanks Grandma!

I wish the weather would warm up and stop being so dreary. (On a random note, who names their hotel after such a word? Dreary? Seriously.) Last night, I decided the dogs would become permanent outside dogs. I originally thought that once the weather dried up some the dogs could have a more flexible inside/outside schedule. Nope, now instead of tracking in mud they're bringing in dirt, even after brushing them before letting them in. I give up. ON TOP of Dax's horrible horrible habits that I won't go into. He cannot be left alone in the house without getting into/onto something he knows he's not supposed to. Ryan and I have been debating what to do about the dog, dirt, and bad habits dilemmas for awhile. We'd come up with several options. But yesterday, Dax made the decision much easier. Since it was raining, the dogs were only allowed out to go potty. TWICE I had to drag Dax back into the house because he refused to come of his own accord. "So, okay Dax, you want to be outside so badly, stay out all night. Libby, you too." I've come to realize that the dogs don't WANT to be inside and are perfectly content out. I'm the one who hesitates at the idea of making them stay outside all the time. Last night, I got up every ten minutes to check onn them. Each time I peeped outside, they would just look at me like, "Do you need something?" I know this is best, especially when little Elayna arrives. And it would be better to transition them now instead of after she's born. I don't want them to think they've been booted. Anyway, now we have to get a shelter of some sort. Libby's already laid dibs on the dog bed.

While Ryan and I were out, we saw this on the highway. We couldn't agree on what it was-- a statue in transit or a truck bed cover. What do you think? We both agreed that the one on the end, nearest the tailgate resembles Libby a little too much.
