diaper bag

We (I) found our diaper bag... at a sports and outdoors store. I haven't taken actual photos of it yet, so here's a website with images (ours is the sage "palm" color). I've also got several gifts that I haven't posted photos of yet. But they're coming!

Why does bedtime always equal boredom? I just got home from work, Ryan's already asleep, and I'm not ready for bed yet. I'm a copy-cat and this is Jess's idea... that she copied from someone else.

apples & apples... and apples

In addition to being obsessed with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," I'm also in love with apples. (I liked them before, but now that's all my fruit basket has in it-- like I'm hording them in case of some natural disaster.) Maybe it's because "boy or not" is about the size of one. There's a slideshow on babycenter.com that gives you an estimation of growth (as compared to food), week by week. Grocery shopping is an entirely new experience for me as I pass each week's approximate fruit/vegetable. I discreetly imagine various produce inside me; seriously, I might be going crazy, folks.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

I've heard this song a million times, but for whatever reason I'm now absolutely in love with it! It was on the radio yesterday and I just can't get enough of it. Here ya go!

haha ha, yeah right.

Although, when I try to "suck" in my stomach, it doesn't move very much compared to what I "used to could do." (Yall from Melber catch that?) Ryan's tells me I'm starting to show, but I think not. My pants are beginning to get tight, but it's nowhere near time for maternity clothes. Eh.

Quickening or Heartbeat?

Um, for all of you past or present pregos, when did you first feel the baby move? The other night, when I laid down for bed, I thought I felt my pulse but it was in my stomach-- much like after you've gone running or walking and your muscles *ping.* My stomach was *ping-ing.* So browsing the web tonight to find out when most women start to feel their babies, I found that some have described this sensation as a "flutter" or "pulse." But first-timers don't normally feel anything until about 20 weeks. I'm only 13 1/2. This is why I ask. Also, my doctor told me the baby's placenta was in the front, so that'll make it a little more difficult to first start feeling any "quickening." But I'm also that person who knows/feels when I'm ovulating because of middlesmertz. (Some people can actually feel when an egg is released. I'm not making this up! It's not exactly common; go ahead and google it.)

...So ladies... when did you first feel any movement?

*POOF* be gone!

Yay! Morning sickness (aka "24HR, never give me a friggin break and I can hardly eat because the sight and smell of everything makes me nauseous sickness") has finally diminished... as I keep my fingers crossed and knock on wood. The first trimester is officially coming to a close... that's so weird to say. Our next OB appointment is the 3rd of April. Still not showing... although if you ask some of the ladies who shop at Motherhood Maternity, where I work, they'll come right out and ask if I'm pregnant because they think I'm showing. I just smile and nod, because I don't have the guts to tell them that "bump" isn't baby and actually existed before the "boy or not" was even a twinkle in our eyes. Geesh.

Randy & Renee are coming out in April. Hopefully they'll get to ride a ferry this time. We'll probably be camping (or cabin-ing) at the Olympic National Park. So if anyone in the Northwest has a 6+ man tent (can't forget the dogs), may we borrow it please?!

Second Ultrasound

You can clearly (kinda) see its legs, big belly, arms, and head. The brighter white areas are bone structures. The angle wasn't the best, so you can't see him/her stretching his/her legs.

06 March 2008

"...boy OR NOT?"

This morning was our first OB appointment. (I'm on Dr. Batig's team, Jess.) The doctor wanted an ultrasound, so Ryan & I were able to see the little guy/gal moving around like crazy--kicking and waving (closely resembling jumping jacks). The view wasn't the best for a photo, so Dr. Perez thought she could get him/her to move around if she started poking. Nope, nothing... completely uncooperative and stopped moving altogether. Almost like, "If I don't move, they can't see me." I think the reason for another ultrasound was because we've been given three different due dates and Dr. Perez wanted to get a better idea of how much the baby has developed. We were able to see it's head, BIG belly, arms, legs, and heartbeat. I'm sure Ryan was disappointed when the due date changed from 09/19/2008 (one day before his birthday) to 09/15/2008 (which is still really close to his birthday and everyone knows the dates are tentative anyway). I would have posted the ultrasound, but Ryan wanted to take it to work and I wasn't able to scan it before he left. So it'll be up tonight, hopefully. (Oh, the title is one of Ryan's questions. Instead of asking when we'd be able to tell if it was a boy or girl, he said "boy or not." We all thought it was funny.) Later!

She's 26!!!

Happy Birthday JESS!

oh baby

Okay, for all you superstitious people, today marks the 12 week date of pregnancy, so we can finally shout, "We're having a baby!"

Olympic National Forest

Here are more pictures of David & Priscilla's WA trip. As soon as we get to the Olympic National Park, Ryan goes into stalker-killer mode.

Here he is, sneakily peeking out from behind David. There was a period of time when we lost Ryan and figured he was further along the trail. Oh no, he was hiding. So when we start taking random photos, he reveals himself.

Just a picture of the beautiful scenery we were able to hike in.

There were Hurricane Class 3 winds a few months ago that literally ripped trees out of the ground. David's standing next to one.

Here we are on the "World's Largest Spruce Tree."

Here it is in full view.

I love how ferns would grow in the funniest places. Even near Fort Lewis, there are ferns growing out of every little crevice of every rock and tree.

If you've been riding in Illinois with Priscilla, I don't even have to tell you what she was doing right here. I just let her have a moment... alone.

The trail was blocked because of debris from the devastating winds. Of course that's not going to stop us from seeing what lies beyond the "unsafe to pass this point" sign. Then we come to this and decide it's okay to turn around.

I don't know how he does it, but Ryan was able to find the woodpecker within .008 seconds of hearing its chirp.

David spent much of the hike clearing the trails of fallen trees.

Ryan had to help on occassion.

Look how big the trees and ferns are!!!

Yall remember Smokey?! This picture confused me for awhile. I thought it was Smokey with human hands in a suit. Then Ryan had to explain it was a man holding up a Smokey mask. Geesh, I might be getting pregnancy brain sooner than I expected.

This is Lake Cushman. We were trying to get to the Staircase Campground for a hike or two. But the roads were closed about four miles from camp... after the long, windy drive up the mountain, we had to turn around and go back down.

An infamous "honey bucket" (aka "porta-potty")

time for pics

These pictures aren't in any particular order. I don't have time tonight to organize them. Here's David & Priscilla in Steilacoom, a small town on Puget Sound.

Here we are again at the ferry dock.

A view of Mount Rainier from Fort Lewis' Parade Field.

David & Trish in Seattle (outside Pike Place Market).

In Africa, Priscilla loved to eat these goat-taco-like things. She hasn't had one since she lived there and was finally able to enjoy one at a Greek Deli outside Pike Place Market.

Puget Sound, complete with sunset, totem pole, airplane, and ferry.

David & I snuck into a Half-Track outside Ryan's work.
