Generators = Hotcakes

How scary is this?! It's like something straight out of a movie. Kinda reminds me of Chronicles of Narnia.

Western Kentucky is finally recovering from a recent ice storm that made national headlines and weather records. We weren't able to contact anyone back home for nearly a week. Power lines were just ripped from poles because the weight of the ice. So many homes are without heat, electricity, and running water. Some parts of Western Kentucky are predicted to be without electricity for ANOTHER THREE WEEKS.

It is near impossible for stores to keep generators in stock. As soon as they come in, they're sold. Renee went to town the other day and said stores were putting generators on pullies, straight off the trucks, anticipating sales. But without electricity, gas stations aren't able to pump any gas. So folks have to drive quite a distance to find working stations to fuel their generators. Several stores are operating on a cash-basis only and allowing small numbers of customers to shop at a time. Schools and churches have opened their doors as emergency relief shelters. Renee says their treeline looks like a row of stalks, stripped clean of their limbs. Apparently, every 1/2 inch of ice carries 500lbs of pressure. Melber was covered in two inches (three in some parts), so it's no wonder all the trees are unbelievably damaged.

And without running water, they've surrounded their house with buckets to collect dripping water (the Phillips too). Listening to her stories has really made me appreciate the comforts and luxuries I'm privileged to. Renee is sending me an entire CD of pictures, but until I receive it, I wanted to share with you some photos I found online.

The weather has finally been warm enough to melt all the ice away. Now it's time to repair all the damage that was done. Please pray for everyone who was affected by the storm.
