Just a quick catch up on the events of the day.  Gloria was put on an epidural this morning as well as some Petocin to help speed along the labor process.  Things seemed to be going smoothly.  Gloria spent most of the morning sleeping and Ryan and I kept each other company talking and watching TV.  But after almost 24 hours of labor, Gloria was only dilated 5cm and had seemed to stop progressing, plus Gloria had developed a slight fever.   Which added with an increase in Elayna's heart rate started talk of a C-section.  Once the decision was made it was only a matter of minutes before Gloria was wheeled off and Ryan (dressed in scrubs) followed her to the OR where Elayna Vaye was welcomed into the world.
Because of the slight fever that Gloria had and the increased heart rate Elayna was having before delivery she is currently being kept in the NICU to be monitored to make sure she isn't suffering from any type of infection.
Like Gloria said, she would much rather that the baby be closely monitored and safe than anything else.
We all couldn't agree more.
All of these photos were taken in the NICU about an hour after the baby was born.
She has the tiniest little cry.
It took a little while after the baby was born for the staff to get Gloria ready to go to the recovery room where she will be staying for the next several days.  But once she was able to be moved we stopped in to the NICU so that Gloria could see and hold her precious little girl for the first time.  What an awesome moment!
She has some brownish/red hair.
She has her Mom's eyes and nose.
We were all a little shocked at just how big she was.  I think we had the mindset that she might be 7 or 8 pounds.  We later found out this was why Gloria stopped dilating at 5cm.  Her body knew that Elayna was too big.
But the bottom line is Mom is healthy.  Dad is happy and excited.  Baby Elayna is here and doing great and looking beautiful.  What more could we ask for?

*I am sorry that it has taken me so long to get photos up tonight.  I know some of you have been really anxious to see Elayna.  I came home from getting my daughter and Blogger and the Internet just didn't want to work.
